12-year-old arrested for allegedly biting teacher at Pelham Gardens Middle School

A 12-year-old Bronx girl has been arrested after allegedly biting her teacher's shoulder during school.
The student's mother, April McCormick, says that her daughter, Starasia, didn't receive proper care at Pelham Gardens Middle School, where she is supposed to have an aide with her at all times. She wants to know why the school failed to provide one for this year.
McCormick also says her daughter has emotional issues and a fear of teachers stemming from a childhood incident. She claims that the teacher cornered Starasia, ultimately leading her to react with violence.
The young girl was released on her own recognizance, and is due back in family court later this week.
The Department of Education says it's looking into the matter.
