The widow and children of a soldier from New Jersey killed in Afghanistan received a new home thanks to a Sept. 11 foundation.
Representatives from the Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation presented Stephanie Wildrick and her two daughters a new, mortgage-free home in Blairstown at a ceremony Monday. Volunteers from the foundation helped to build the home for the family.
Army Spc. Ronald Wildrick, Jr died in 2011 while serving Afghanistan. The vehicle he was traveling in was struck by an IED.
Veterans and community residents came to show their support for the family while they saw their new home for the first time.
Stephanie Wildrick is now in college to become a nurse. Her daughters, Kaylee and Lea, have been living with their grandparents for the time being. The new home will help keep them close to the family.
“We put them in the communities where it makes most sense for them to have the support of their family,” says Frank Siller with the foundation. “A house is very important absolutely, but the family is No. 1.”
The Tunnel To Towers Foundation is named for firefighter Stephen Siller, who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The foundation helps the families of military and first responders who died in the line of duty.
