THE BRONX - The Iconic Grand Concourse post office at the corner of 149th Street will soon close and the building that houses it will be sold.
Postal workers, politicians and residents oppose the quietly announced move.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said in a statement that the closure is unacceptable and questions why this branch was chosen for closure.
Joseph Martir, of the NY Metro American Postal Workers Union, says the union was kept in the dark about the closure and that losing the post office will hurt the less fortunate and elderly.
A public hearing about the closure of the post office will be held at the post office on Feb. 6 at 10:30 p.m.
