Food pantries are getting some assistance as they work to help Long Islanders put food on their tables.

233ds agoA national organization has stepped in to make sure Long Island families can put food on the table amid the COVID-19 crisis.
William Rodriguez, president of the National Supermarket Association, has put forth $7,000 in funds for both Pronto Food Pantry based in Bay Shore and Adelante Food Pantry based in Central Islip.
The food distribution sites were experiencing a huge surge in demand with so many people out of work.
"it's very easy for us to come back to the community that has given us so much, so we just want to come here and give," said Rodriguez.
Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez along with state Sen. Monica Martinez praised both food pantries for continuing to serve those families in need.
"We're going to do everything in our power to make sure that our food pantries continue staying full for this community that's been hard hit," said Gonzales.
Adelante Food Pantry says they hope to have drive-thru pick up services at least once a month.
