BRONX - Local activists, elected officials and religious leaders came together to announce the creation of a safer place after a string of hate crimes against the LGBTQ community.

Tym Moss, president of the New LGBTQ Community Center, says despite the reopening of the center, discussion and education on the issues have to take place.

Moss says that although the recent string of attacks against the LGBTQ community have been reported in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Bronx is not exempt from these hate crimes. He adds that many people may be too afraid to report them.
