1 dead in fiery crash on Major Deegan

THE BRONX - Police are investigating a fatal crash on the northbound Major Deegan Expressway Wednesday.

According to authorities, a 29-year-old man was killed when his car struck a tree and burst into flames near the Van Cortlandt Park South exit. Police believe speed played a role in the crash.

The crash and the investigation closed down one lane of the Major Deegan northbound Wednesday afternoon. All lanes have since been reopened.For chopper footage from scene of fatal Deegan crash, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
