1 dead in police-involved in shooting on Faile Street

HUNTS POINT - New York City police say they fatally wounded a suspect who shot at them during a search for guns and drugs in Hunts Point.

One officer suffered minor injuries.

Police were searching the home at 822 Faile St. with a warrant at about 9:15 a.m. today when they say the suspect pulled out a gun in the back of the building.

It's not clear how many shots were fired. The man was hit once in the abdomen and once in the leg and was later pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.

At least two officers were on scene, one in uniform and one wearing an NYPD jacket.

A 9 mm handgun was recovered at the scene.
