1 indicted in alleged Morris Heights anti-gay hate crime

THE BRONX - Prosecutors have indicted a Bronx man on charges of gang assault and other offenses in connection with an alleged bias attack in Morris Heights.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Luis Garcia is facing a maximum sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment if convicted of first-degree robbery, a Class B felony offense.

Authorities say when a group of men calling themselves the Latin King Goonies discovered one of their teen recruits was gay, they attacked him and then went after a 30-year-old man who supposedly had a sexual encounter with the teen. Two others were also allegedly attacked. Charges were dropped yesterday against three men who had also been accused in connection to the alleged Oct. 3 attacks.
