One person was killed and two others were injured in an early morning fire that broke out inside an illegally converted apartment in Olinville, authorities

THE BRONX - One person was killed and two others were injured in an early morning fire that broke out inside an illegally converted apartment in Olinville, authorities say.

Fire officials say flames broke out at around 12:30 a.m. in the kitchen of the illegal residence at 3303 Bronxwood Ave.

Police say a 71-year-old resident was rushed to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The landlord, 51-year-old Marjorie Laws, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition.

According to officials, a third resident, a man in his 50s, was also taken to the hospital with burns. He is currently listed in stable condition.

In the aftermath of the fire, the Department of Buildings has issued a vacate order for the rear garage, deeming it unsafe for occupancy.

The FDNY says the fatal incident is a reminder of the dangers of illegal conversions.
