THE BRONX - Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Throgs Neck house fire Friday morning that killed one person and injured three others.

News 12 The Bronx has learned that the victims are the relatives of a former Bronx politician.

According to the FDNY, the fire broke out on the first floor and spread to the second floor of the three-story house at 326 Swinton Avenue at around 3:50 a.m. The victims were all rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.

Ramon Velez, 58, the son of a former Bronx politician of the same name, is in critical condition. His wife, 55-year-old Enriqueta Velez was killed. Their 5-year-old granddaughter was treated and released from the hospital. Ramon Velez's mother-in-law is listed in stable condition.

Due to the former politician's roots, state Sen. Ruben Diaz (D-The Bronx) describes the home as being a center for political changes and a historical landmark for the Bronx.

The fire was extinguished at around 4:30 a.m. and officials tell News 12 they are still investigating the cause of the deadly fire.
