THE BRONX - One person was seriously injured today in a basement fire at an apartment building at Crotona Park South and Prospect Avenue.

According to the battalion chief on the scene, one person was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center. He says he believes the person may have gone down to the basement after smelling smoke and then became trapped.

The chief says they are still investigating the cause of the fire and are calling it suspicious, for now, because of where it started.

The Red Cross says it hasn't had to find shelter for any families living in the building.
