HUNTS POINT - The Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx will be cooking for a cause tomorrow in a contest meant to bring exposure to the area.

The Slam Bake cooking contest puts 13 neighborhood restaurants in competition with each other. One of the judges, Cooking Channel host Baron Ambrosia, visited some of the restaurants today.

The contest is meant to raise awareness of the damage Hunts Point suffered during Sandy, as well as its recovery efforts. Hunts Point is one of the finalists in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Rebuilds by Design program, which allocates funding to communities hit hardest by the storm. Participating restaurants hope the exposure from the contest will bring more aid to the community.

The competing restaurants will have to cook different dishes using ingredients bought in Hunts Point. The contest will be held Wednesday at the American Banknote Building and is open to the public.
