THE BRONX - More than 100 students who won the NYPD's annual essay contest were invited to spend the day at city precincts.
The 130 students from across the five boroughs had the opportunity to shadow a police officer for the day. They also were treated to a mock swearing in ceremony.
Lisbeth Ferreiras, of the Bronx, spent her day shadowing officers from the 46th Precinct.
This year's essay topic asked participants how they'd go about reducing the amount of teens with illegal guns if they were police commissioner for a day.
