14 pit bulls found in burning apartment

THE BRONX - Firefighters battling a fire in a Grand Concourse apartment building discovered 14 unconscious pit bulls yesterday.

The dogs were all evacuated safely, but according to witnesses, the dogs appeared sick and malnourished. One of the dogs found had to be euthanized due to poor health.

Neighbors say that the man who lived in the apartment always appeared suspicious and didn't treat the dogs well.

The dogs were taken to animal shelters for evaluation, but questions are being raised about why the tenant had the dogs.
