KINGSBRIDGE - Before the Highbridge Community Church started serving Halal food, Muslims couldn't eat a free meal at a typical food pantry.

The Quran says Muslims can only eat animals that are slaughtered in a certain way. Now, the community church in Highbridge and another food pantry in Parkchester are catering to this specific diet.

The pantry director says more than 100 people come to the Highbridge Community Church three days a week to get a free meal. Even if you don't follow the Halal diet, everyone is welcome to the free meals there, according to the director.

The pantry is open Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday evenings from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
