THE BRONX - Two elderly pedestrians remain in the hospital following a multi-vehicle crash in Wakefield.

It happened at around 4:30 p.m. Monday at the corner of De Reimer and Pitman avenues. Witnesses say that a speeding car managed to strike two SUVs, and two women, ages 81 and 77, who were standing on the sidewalk.

Authorities say that the 81-year-old is in critical condition at Jacobi Medical Center, while the 77-year-old is in stable condition at Montefiore Medical Center.

A 29-year-old man behind the wheel of the car involved has been taken into police custody, and charges against him are pending.
