2 hurt in 10-car pileup on the southbound Major Deegan Expressway

The multi-car crash brought traffic to a halt, delaying commuters for several miles. (1/23/14)

THE BRONX - At least two people were hurt in a serious multi-car pileup on the southbound side of the Major Deegan Expressway.

At least 10 cars were involved in the accident between exits 10 and 11 just before 6:30 a.m.

Chopper 12 flew over the scene as the entire roadway was shut down, bringing traffic to a screeching halt. The roadway reopened soon after, but with severe delays backing up well into Westchester County.

One of the drivers involved told News 12 that black ice was to blame for the chain reaction crash.

Several of the wrecked vehicles were towed to Autorama Enterprises on Butler Place in the Bronx.
