MORRIS HEIGHTS - Two people, one a firefighter, were injured in an early morning fire at a Morris Heights apartment building.

The firefighter suffered minor injuries after the staircase connecting the third and fourth floors of 1793 Sedgwick Ave. collapsed. Fire officials say the fire occurred shortly before 4 a.m. and began on the building's third floor.

The fire burned through several apartments, displacing more than 50 tenants.

Fire officials say the blaze has been labeled suspicious and an investigation is ongoing.
