THE BRONX - Two men are dead after a fire in a top-floor apartment at 2700 Grand Concourse.

Officials say the cause of the fire was careless smoking. First responders say they found a 49-year-old man and a 44-year-old man unconscious in apartment 609 at around 10:30 Thursday night.

Both men were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they were declared dead. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The FDNY says the apartment had no working smoke alarm.
