THE BRONX - Two men, including the victim's son, are being held without bail in connection with the killing and dismembering of a 45-year-old Bronx woman.

Tanya Byrd's son, 23-year-old Bashid McLean, was arraigned on second-degree murder charges. His mother's body parts were found scattered in plastic bags around Eagle Avenue and East 158th Street early Tuesday morning.

In court Thursday, McLean’s lawyer said he found his client wearing very flew clothes and covered in urine where he was being held. There are “clearly mental issues going on here,” he said. He says his client requires medication.

McLeans's alleged accomplice, 26-year-old William Harris, was also arraigned on charges of hindering prosecution, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of marijuana. The Bronx County District Attorney's Office says he helped McLean chop Byrd's body into pieces.

The medical examiner says Byrd died from a stab wound to the neck, causing her to bleed to death.

Both suspects have a criminal history. McLean has eight prior arrests, six in New York and two in New Jersey. Harris has 24 arrests on his record for various charges, including assault, robbery, drug possession and trespassing.

The men are both due back in court on March 4.
