VAN CORTLANDT PARK - Nearly 300 Bronx residents took part in a half-marathon in Van Cortlandt Park this morning.

Organizers started the trend on Thanksgiving Day. The run is free for all participants, and runners write down their own times. Participants who bring a gift can take one at the finish line.

Race organizers say they will be back for a run on New Year's Day given the success of today's event and the Thanksgiving race. They said they plan on putting together an event for every major holiday.
