THE BRONX - A 34-year-old Bronx man is dead after a shooting near his own home in Highbridge.

According to police, Tommy Dawson was shot in the head at West 171st Street and Ogden Avenue at around 9 p.m. Sunday, just blocks way from his apartment at 1380 University Ave. He was rushed to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.

Many neighbors say they aren't surprised by the violence. NYPD numbers don't show a rise in shootings in the neighborhood, but just last week an Ogden Avenue barbershop full of customers was robbed at gunpoint.

No arrests have been made.
