4 accused in synagogue bomb plot appear in court

THE BRONX - Four men charged in the alleged plot to bomb two Riverdale synagogues faced a judge for a pretrial hearing yesterday.

The defendants are accused of planning to blow up the synagogues last year. An FBI informant gave the group inactive explosives while working undercover.

Alicia McWilliams, an aunt of one suspect, says prosecutors have yet to prove her nephew or the three other suspects were ever involved in terrorist practices or organizations. According to McWilliams, the accused are not anti-Semites and the FBI informant was the one to suggest they blow up synagogues.

All four have pleaded not guilty. Jury selection begins June 8.
