THE BRONX - The United States Postal Service announced that four of seven Bronx post offices slated for closure will remain open.

Though three locations in the borough remain on the chopping block, residents near the Botanical Station, Clason Point, Hillside and Melcourt post offices were pleased their branches will stay open.

The U.S. Postal Service was forced to make cuts because of the recession, a drop in mail volume and more people using online methods to pay bills. Bronx residents say the post offices are helpful because they offer customer service.

Post offices in Crotona Park, Van Nest and Oak Point will close in 2010.
