THE BRONX - A 4-year-old child and his mother were hit by a livery cab Monday morning at West 230th Street and Broadway.

Police say the cab swerved to avoid another car on the road and ran into a school crossing sign. The sign snapped and fell on the child.

Residents say the intersection is dangerous for pedestrians.

The child is listed in critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
