THE BRONX - Five businesses on Hunts Point Avenue say they're being forced out by their landlord after years of doing business on the strip, and now they have just 30 days to vacate.

The business owners say they each signed a 10-year lease agreement last August but received vacate orders last week from their landlord, Amtrak Railroad Corp.

The contracts do stipulate that Amtrak can terminate the leases with 30 days notice, but shop owners and employees say the move comes as a stunning blow.

The shops, which include a restaurant, hair salon and brokerage office, aren't closing their doors without a fight. The owners say they're taking the battle to court.

An Amtrak spokesperson reached for comment says the company is looking into the matter.
