CROTONA - Officials say five Bronx residents were taken to the hospital following an apartment fire in the Crotona area this afternoon.

The fire broke out on the first floor just before 1 p.m. at 824 East 181st St., according to fire officials.

They say five residents were taken to Saint Barnabus Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Police say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
