THE BRONX - Fire officials evacuated people living in 50 apartments located near a small transformer box explosion Wednesday.

Officials say a construction crew hit a transformer box underground causing the explosion near 860 Hunts Point Ave.

Residents say they saw their lights flicker before venturing outside around 11 a.m. The buildings were without power for three hours.
