HARRIMAN - A van from the Joy Fellowship Church in the Bronx was carrying 14 people north on the New York State Thruway when a tire exploded causing the van to flip, ejecting nine of the occupants.

All told, six people were pronounced dead at the scene and the eight others were taken to local hospitals.

Investigators say they have had trouble identifying some of the remains and will not release the names of the victims until all can be identified.

The accident backed up traffic in both directions of the NYS Thruway all afternoon as police conducted their investigation.
