Accused child killer appears in court

THE BRONX - The Bronx grandmother accused of killing her 4-year-old grandson appeared in court Friday.

Angela Barksdale, 45, is accused of beating her grandson, Kevion Shand, to death inside her Metropolitan Avenue apartment. Authorities say Kevion died from blows to the head.

Barksdale's attorney maintains her client's innocence. Outside the courtroom, her lawyer said the media has already tried and convicted Barksdale before the facts were presented.

The family of the child's father was also present in the courtroom. Those family members say they want justice to be served.

Barksdale faces second-degree murder charges.
