THE BRONX - Academy Award-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe hosted an "Uptown Serenade" concert at Lehman College on Sunday evening.

Sidibe got her start performing with Lehman Stages, a rehearsal and performance facility, before going on to her starring role in the movie "Precious.? Students say they feel inspired by Sidibe's success and determination.

Current students along with alumni singers performed songs by artists including Stevie Wonder and Cole Porter during the event. All profits from "Uptown Serenade" will be donated to an upcoming performance for children, "Kids Rule," also sponsored by Lehman Stages this summer.
