Aging water main bursts, cutting water to hundreds

THE BRONX - Utility officials say an 82-year-old water main burst in Morris Park this morning, leaving more than 280 residents and local businesses without water. Eyewitnesses say they saw the asphalt crumble and buckle along Morris Park Avenue this morning. The 20-inch pipe that burst sent water streaming down the busy roadway. Con Edison repair crews were able to cap the pipe and stem off the water, but cleanup on the road could take much longer, officials say.

Some residents in the area say they have dirty, brownish water flowing from their faucets. Others say they have no water at all. Several local businesses closed early today. A deli owner says he had to close his shop for the day because he couldn't cook for his customers without water.
