THE BRONX - A man and his wife from Longwood are neighborhood heroes after helping to catch a serial car vandal.

According to one resident, who didn't want to be identified, her husband caught the suspect after he popped a side view mirror off a vehicle on Freeman Street Wednesday night.

She says the two began to struggle, and she rushed to help. They then discovered the man had a bag full of stolen car mirrors, and were able to detain him until police arrived.

Officials have identified the suspect as Carlos Marrero.

Marrero was arraigned Friday and is charged with auto stripping, criminal mischief and possession of stolen property.

A Bronx judge released the 49-year-old on his own recognizance.
