THE BRONX - An NYPD officer and his wife who are charged in a traffic ticket fixing scandal are now facing charges that they plotted to kill a witness in a separate case.

Jose Ramos and his wife, Wanda Abreu, have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Officials allege that the pair used code words and aliases to hire a hit man. They say that they grew suspicious that police were on to their plan and did not go through with the plot.

Ramos' attorney said that they were blindsided by the charges and denies all involvement in the alleged plot.

Ramos was ordered held without bail. His wife was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.

The pair's next court appearance is on Aug. 3.
