THE BRONX - Residents in Allerton are taking action to get drivers to hit the brakes in their neighborhood.

Community activist Irene Estrada Rukaj has collected more than 500 signatures to get speed bumps installed along Wallace Avenue at Allerton Avenue. She also wants the Department of Transportation (DOT) to create a five-block slow zone.

Rukaj says she'll be submitting the petition to Community Board 11 next week, along with an application for the slow zone.

News 12 reached out to the DOT for comment, but has not yet heard back.
