Anxiety high among cabbies after shootings

BEDFORD - With the relaunch of Operation Safe Cab a week ago, cab drivers in the Bronx hope they can move past the fatal incidents that targeted colleagues over the past few months.

Lenin Toribio, who works for the same service that employed slain cab driver Jose Pena, says the slayings have given him a different perspective about his work.

"[The shootings] make me think about my job, how dangerous it is," he says. "It really scared me."

Cab drivers who join Operation Safe Cab put a decal on their window allowing NYPD officers to stop and search their vehicles at any time.
