AP: Mayor Bloomberg sends letter to donors

NEW YORK - (AP) - New Yorkers who give money to political campaigns all over the country will be getting a letter from Mayor Michael Bloomberg suggesting how he wants them to spend their donations.

Every spring, Bloomberg gathers wealthy donors and tells them the causes he wants them to consider before supporting anyone running for office.

The average New Yorker gives 2.5 times more money to federal candidates than other Americans.

This year, the mayor and his partners have expanded the effort. Bloomberg sent letters to 50,000 New Yorkers listing hislegislative priorities. He also gave them a card to keep in their wallets as a reminder.

Everyone who got a letter gave $200 or more to federal candidates in recent elections.

Bloomberg tells them the city needs their help in pushing its agenda.
