THE BRONX - A massive apartment building fire displaced dozens of families and killed one person in Mount Eden Saturday night.

Seven people were injured in the blaze, five of whom were listed in serious condition. Investigators said a 46-year-old man was killed, but his identity has not yet been released.

Officials say about 120 people are now homeless after flames tore through the five-story building on 169th Street. Many residents say they never heard a fire alarm go off, but saw the flames and were able to escape.

Some of the residents were able to briefly return to their homes Sunday to see if they could salvage any belongings. The Red Cross is using P.S. 64 on Walton Avenue to temporarily house the families.

Fire officials say they are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
