Arthur Ave. shoppers fined for violating parking laws

Shoppers have been flocking to Arthur Avenue for tasty Italian specialties ahead of the holidays, but many have come away with more than they bargained

THE BRONX - Shoppers have been flocking to Arthur Avenue for tasty Italian specialties ahead of the holidays, but many have come away with more than they bargained for, namely, hefty fines.Customers say because of heavy traffic in the area around the holidays, they don't have a choice but to park in front of the food stores in violation of alternate-side parking rules, which are in effect between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. four days a week. Dave Greco, the owner of Mike's Deli, says the $115 tickets can drive shoppers away from the area. Greco even has an employee watch customers' cars so they don't get fined. Some customers, however, say it's better to obey the law and park around the corner.
