HUNTS POINT - An artist is hoping his most recent work will help 'paint a sense of safety' in Hunts Point.

Robert Hickman's project, Silvered/Slivered, involved the artist spending 12 hours a day, for three days painting the vertical risers of steps to Hunts Point's pedestrian bridge.

Many residents say the bridge is a dangerous place, and the new paint job illuminates the area so it is no longer a dark place.

The New York artist says he hopes that lighting up the stairway will lift up the morale of the neighborhood.
