ASPCA offers winter pet safety tips

Owners are being reminded that if it’s too cold for you outside, then it’s too cold for your pets. (1/3/14)

NEW YORK - The ASPCA is reminding pet owners that they need to take extra good care of their furry family during inclement winter weather.

It's important to never let your dog off the leash on snow or ice because it's easy for them to lose their scent and get lost.

The ASPCA also says to thoroughly wipe off your dog's legs and stomach when coming indoors so that they don't ingest salt, antifreeze or other potentially dangerous chemicals when licking their paws.

Remember that if it's too cold for you, it's too cold for your pets, so don't leave them outside any longer than you would want to be out there. Coats and booties should be considered, especially for short-haired and smaller dogs.
