THE BRONX - In the middle of Autism Awareness Month, one local agency that gives a lot for the cause is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Special Citizens Futures Unlimited, located in Grand Concourse, is a group that focuses on aiding teens and adults with autism, fostering a tightly knit environment for its participants.

The group not only offers recreational programs like Zumba and art, but also skills programs for job training.

Special Citizens Futures Unlimited's Director of Quality Assurance Alex DiMaio says his group is person-centered, meaning they build their days around the wants and needs of their participants.

DiMaio says employment numbers for those on the autistic spectrum are too low, and are something that should be looked at, and not only during Autism Awareness Month.
