Baby girl safe after climbing onto awning on 18th Avenue near 80th Street

A baby girl is safe tonight after nearly taking a tumble from a second-story awning. The incident happened at around 2 p.m. on 18th Avenue

The baby climbed out of the window of a second-story apartment, onto a fire escape and onto the awning of a store.

BROOKLYN - A baby girl is safe tonight after nearly taking a tumble from a second-story awning.

The incident happened at around 2 p.m. on 18th Avenue near 80th Street.

The baby climbed out of the window of a second-story apartment, onto a fire escape and onto the awning of a store.

Workers at a pharmacy across the street saw the child and alerted the mother. One worker said he was able to climb out and get the baby while others called police. He also said that the mother was cooking and unaware that her baby was on a ledge.

The baby was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and is expected to be OK.

There is no word yet whether the mother will be charged.
