THE BRONX - One man plans to make history by diving into the Bronx River Saturday night.

Resident Baron Ambrosia says he will become the first person on record to swim the length of the Bronx using the actual Bronx River. Ambrosia says he simply wants to generate discussions about cleaning up the river.

He plans to collect river samples at different stops along the seven-and-a-half-mile swim, like the Botanical Gardens and Gun Hill. The Bronx River Alliance says the borough's river is heavily polluted with shards of glass, bottles and bacteria lying beneath the surface.

Ambrosia says he maintains a healthy lifestyle and has received a number of medical shots in order to fight off any dangerous pollutants in the river. He says he will wear a wetsuit and water shoes during his swim.
