THE BRONX - A basement apartment fire led police to uncover some illegal operations on Chatterton Avenue.

Police tell News 12 they found a large amount of marijuana after responding to the fire around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. They say they believe the growing was done downstairs while packaging was done upstairs.

Firefighters were able to control the fire without any structural damage or injuries.

Police say they took several people in for questioning and removed the plants from the basement early Sunday morning.

At least one person is in custody as police continue to investigate.
