Beehive installed in Bronx garden (6/25/16)

THE BRONX - A beehive was installed at the Risse Street Community Garden in April and there are about 30,000 bees now hard at work.

Beekeeper Brendan O'Regan attended a beekeeping training seminar on Randall’s Island and brought his idea to the community garden.

"I was always interested in them it was just I didn't have any place to put a beehive," O'Regan said.

Every three days he feeds them sugar and water and makes sure everything is going as planned. In September O'Regan will extract the honey, but he says there won't be a lot this year because the bees used a lot of their time to build up the wax cells.

Next year he's expecting 50-80 pounds.
