THE BRONX - A beloved Bronx cheerleading coach is being remembered as an inspiration by her family, friends and former athletes.

Geraldine Demers passed away Friday after a battle with cancer. The longtime Bronx resident first started teaching her students cheerleading in the late 1960s while her husband coached the Warriors Football Club.

Over the years, Demers coached hundreds of young girls and helped them prepare for countless tryouts.

Demers was 68 years old. She is survived by her husband, four children and five grandchildren.
