Benched veterans help secure Fordham win

THE BRONX - The men's basketball squad from Fordham squeaked its way to a .500 record Wednesday by narrowly defeating Hofstra.

Fordham improved their record to 4-4 after defeating the Pride 73-71. The Rams had been struggling to find the win column prior to the match-up, losing four of their last five games.

Coach Dereck Whittenburg shook up his starting lineup in an effort to jumpstart the team and benched seniors Bryant Dunston and Marcus Stout at tip-off. The move ended longstanding streaks of consecutive starts for the two. Dunston had started the past 98 games for the Rams, while Stout had been in the starting line up for 87 straight games.

The seniors would go on to prove their worth as veterans later in the game. Stout came off the bench to score a team-high 22 points, and Dunston added another 11 to Fordham's tally to secure the win in the game's final minutes.
