THE BRONX - A professor from the Bronx is using rap music to help teach students about science.
Chris Emdin, with some help from Gza of the Wu-Tang Clan, started the Science Genius Project last year as a way to get students interested in science with the help of music. Emdin, a South Bronx native, used to teach high school science and is now a professor at Columbia University.
With support from the city's Department of Education, Emdin has spread his "science through rap" message to 20 high schools in the Bronx. Last month, he was recognized at the White House and given an award for his work in science.
Emdin says he hopes to grow his program to schools all across the city over the next couple of years.
