THE BRONX - Members of the Fordham University football team are getting ready for their upcoming season, and they're also working to raise money for a cause that's close to their hearts.
The Rams are trying to raise funds in remembrance of their honorary teammate Ty Campbell, a 6-year-old who lost his battle with a rare childhood brain cancer last October. The team has partnered with nonprofit group Uplifting Athletes to help raise money and awareness for the disease that took Campbell far too young.
"Ty was a tremendous inspiration to us," says defensive tackle Eli Tenut. "To be so young and fight such a difficult battle, it's something that would touch anyone's heart.
The Rams hope to raise $10,000 throughout the season and to bring awareness to the rare disease.
